THE BAD NEWS: 59.5% of Arkansas public school students are “Not Proficient” in Reading. 22.9% are “Not Close.”
THE GOOD NEWS: Just one year ago, 65% were "Not Proficient," while 28% were "Not Close." That's nearly a six point swing in the right direction on proficiency and a five point reduction in those not close.
For the first time in years, Arkansas is finally improving in Reading, thanks to the implementation of student-focused policies based on the science of reading.
But it's not enough.
With the linked interactive maps, know the Reading performance and growth of your publicly funded schools, and immediately and persistently demand that the adults in charge in your community prioritize Reading and Numeracy, the foundation of all education.
With over $7 Billion spent annually on Arkansas public education, our children deserve nothing less.
